About the pelvic ultrasound procedure

At BG Lab, pelvic ultrasound results are interpreted by highly qualified ultrasound diagnosticians with extensive clinical experience, which completely rules out the possibility of any errors in diagnosis.

Immediately after the procedure, the specialist will explain the results of the examination to the patient in detail and clarify the need for further diagnostic tests or consultations with other doctors.

What does a breast ultrasound examine?

Ultrasound scans of the female pelvic organs are widely used for both the prevention and diagnosis of various conditions affecting the reproductive system. They enable:

  • the accurate detection of inflammatory processes and growths, including ovarian cysts, fibroids and others;
  • identify the causes of vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain;
  • diagnose abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries, including cases of infertility;
  • determine the stage of pregnancy;
    detect multiple pregnancies at an early stage;
  • monitor the condition of the cervix and the development of various abnormalities;
  • monitor patients during medical procedures.

You can undergo a pelvic ultrasound scan at BG Lab either on a doctor’s referral or at your own request. It is a completely safe procedure, with no contraindications or restrictions.

Benefits of the procedure

The pelvic ultrasound scan at the BG Lab centre is completely painless and causes no discomfort.

BG Lab also offers transvaginal and transrectal ultrasound scans, which are comfortable and painless thanks to the use of ergonomically designed transducers and the diagnostician’s attentive approach. This ensures accurate and informative results.

  • No radiation. Ultrasound is a safe diagnostic method suitable for everyone, including newborns and pregnant women. It is an accessible and gentle way to obtain accurate information about our patients’ health
  • Pain-free. The ultrasound scan is performed gently, without the probe exerting any noticeable pressure on the body, and, provided there are no significant pain symptoms, the procedure feels like a light touch. This examination does not cause stress or discomfort, so there is no reason to be afraid of it or to put it off
  • Affordable pricing. An ultrasound scan is not only effective but also one of the most affordable diagnostic tests available. The cost of diagnosis at our centre represents a sensible investment in your health, helping you to make an informed decision about your treatment
  • State-of-the-art equipment. General Electric’s latest-generation scanner produces high-definition images, enabling the precise visualisation of even minor changes in tissue and blood flow for diagnostic purposes

How should I prepare for a pelvic ultrasound scan?

For a transabdominal ultrasound scan, it is important that your bladder is full. Therefore, you should not empty your bladder for 3–4 hours before the scan. Alternatively, you should drink at least 1 litre of still water one hour before the procedure. In addition, 3 days before the ultrasound, it is recommended to avoid foods that cause increased gas formation, such as pulses, cabbage, fermented milk products, etc.

For a transrectal ultrasound, the large intestine must be cleansed using an enema 2–3 hours before the procedure. You may also take a laxative the day before the examination. A transvaginal ultrasound does not require any special preparation, apart from emptying the bladder before the procedure.

What does an ultrasound scan involve?

The patient lies on a couch, and an experienced doctor uses state-of-the-art equipment to carry out a detailed assessment of the condition of the organs displayed on the monitor over a period of 10–20 minutes.

  • The procedure takes 15–20 minutes

  • The results are available immediately after the examination

How do I get the results?

You can receive your ultrasound results within 10–15 minutes of the scan being completed. The results include a detailed report from the diagnostician describing the condition of the pelvic organs.
